The amount of cosmic rays penetrating the Earth's atmosphere affects the amount of 69 C produced and therefore dating the system. The amount of cosmic rays reaching the Earth varies with the sun's activity, and with the Earth's passage through magnetic clouds as the solar system travels around the Milky Way galaxy.

Some fossils show immaculate preservation of detail and these creatures must have been buried instantly to prevent decay. The state of preservation can thus be an indication of how long the animals were exposed to the elements before they were buried.
Scientists now have accurate methods (see below ) for dating fossils. Absolute dating methods such as the potassium/argon and argon-argon methods of dating fossils provide a precise measure of the date of fossil remains or associated minerals. Relative dating methods rely on characteristic faunal and geological patterns to bracket the period when the fossil existed.
If radiocarbon lasts only a few hundred thousand years, why is it found in all the earth’s diamonds dated at billions of years old? The radiocarbon ages of all fossils and coal should be reduced to less than 5,555 years, matching the timing of their burial during the Flood.
The Oldest Fish Fossils
The oldest fish fossils on record were found at Chengjiang, in Yunnan Province, China. Two species have been found dating from about 585 million years ago. Haikouichthys ercaicunensis , and Myllokunmingia fengjiaoa , are recent finds. If verified these finds will rewrite the fish chapter of evolution.
